At Groomer on the Go we believe your dogs grooming experience should be a positive and stress free one. Often, we are asked if we will sedate a dog prior to it`s groom as the dog suffers from high anxiety or aggression. Sedation by a groomer is illegal and if you feel your pet would benefit from sedation while grooming we advise you to contact your vet.
We are also frequently asked how we are able to complete a full groom in a much shorter time than the grooming salons. This is for several reasons. The first is that there are two groomers tending to your dog during the groom, which means double the effort, half the time! Also, many salons cage dry your dog. In our truck we use a high powered warm dryer which drys your dog in record time. This eliminates the need for cage drying and shortens the length of time your dog needs to be away from home. A hand held dryer is used around your dogs more sensitive areas such as their face and feet.
We often have many clients who have purchased a new non shedding puppy and are confused about the maintenance of their new dog. They thought they were getting a low maintenance dog which is certainly not the case. Just like any dog a non shedding dog needs to have it`s hair removed every so often to keep it clean and comfortable. If you are not able to brush your dog between grooms we recommend having your dog groomed every 2-3 months. On the flip side- If you have a shedding dog we advise a shed less treatment for your dog with the change of the seasons to reduce the amount of hair that falls off your dog onto your nice clean floors! We do not practice shaving a shedding dog. This is not natural for the dog and will certainly not reduce the amount that your dog sheds. Your dog has an undercoat and topcoat for a reason and removing these is not healthy for your dog.
We do recommend grooming your dog year round. Many people think their dog will get cold in the winter months if they have their hair cut. This is certainly not the case. When your dog has long hair and it gets wet from the snow the hair will become matted and uncomfortable. It takes longer for the hair to dry which results in your dog being cold- even though you think his hair is keeping him warm! The mat may even retain the moisture and will eventually cause skin problems for your pet. It is our belief that a clean, well trimmed coat is the best solution for your dog year round!
